Grandes catástrofes en la historia de la Tierra: vulcanismo e impacto de bólidos extraterrestres.

Abstract

El presente TFG se centra en algunas de las grandes catástrofes ocurridas en la Historia de la Tierra y en sus consecuencias, entre las que se incluyen grandes extinciones en masa de organismos. En concreto, nos centramos en dos procesos que han provocado gran parte de las mayores catástrofes de la Historia de la Tierra, el vulcanismo, con especial énfasis en el vulcanismo fisural, y el impacto de bólidos extraterrestres. El vulcanismo fisural de Siberia y del Deccan (India) se relaciona con las dos mayores extinciones en masa de la Historia de la Tierra, las que se dieron en el límite Pérmico-Triásico y el Cretácico Paleógeno, respectivamente. Se hace también referencia a las otras tres extinciones en masa que, junto a las anteriores, constituyen las 5 más importantes según consideran la mayoría de los autores. Asimismo hablaremos del impacto de bólidos extraterrestres que han sido considerados también causa principal de algunas de estas extinciones en masa.

The present TFG focuses on sorne of the great catastrophes that have occurred in the history of the Earth and its consequences, among which mass extinctions of organisms are included. Specifically, we focus on two processes that have caused much of the greatest catastrophes in the history of the Earth, volcanism, with particular emphasis on fissural volcanism, and the impact of extraterrestrial fireballs. The fissural volcanism of Siberia and Deccan (India) are related to the two most massive mass extinctions in the History of the Earth, which occurred in the Permian-Triassic and the Paleogene Cretaceous, respectively. Reference is also made to the other three mass extinctions that, together with the previous ones, constitute the five most valuable, as most authors consider. We will also talk about the impact of extraterrestrial fireballs that have also been considered the leading cause of sorne of these mass extinctions.
