“Internal and external factors affecting foreign language learning (English). A group study

Abstract

[ES] La investigación está basada en el estudio de los factores internos y externos que afectan el aprendizaje de un idioma extranjero (Inglés) en un grupo específico de estudiantes en un instituto y cómo éstos reaccionan ante ellos. Igualmente, las técnicas utilizadas por sus profesores para ayudarles a superar las posibles dificultades que éstos puedan encontrar también son estudiadas. Se pueden apreciar dos partes en este estudio: una dedicada a la literatura que diferentes autores han creado a partir de sus estudios sobre este tema, y otra basada en el propio estudio de los factores nombrados anteriormente y cómo los profesores enfrentan esta situación en un instituto en Algeciras (Cádiz). Se han empleado dos cuestionarios para recopilar los datos; uno para los estudiantes y otro para los profesores. Finalmente, se muestran los resultados obtenidos de la investigación, las limitaciones de la misma y las posibles líneas de investigación en el futuro.

[EN] The investigation is based on a study on the internal and external factors that influence students’ learning of a foreign language (English) in a specific group of students in a high school and how these ones react before them. The techniques used by their teachers to help them overcome the possible difficulties these may find are also studied. Two parts can be distinguished: one dedicated to Literary Review, in which the most recurrent factors studied by well-known authors are classified and described, and the other based on the study itself of the aforementioned factors and how teachers face this situation in a high school in Algeciras (Cádiz). Two questionnaires have been used to collect the data, one for each stakeholder: students and teachers. Finally, the outcomes reached from this investigation, its limitations and possible lines for future research are displayed.
