Boosting motivation through project-based learning in the EFL classroom

Abstract

[ES] El presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster se centra en el Aprendizaje basado en proyectos (ABP), una metodología de aprendizaje reciente e innovadora. El trabajo está dividido en dos secciones principales. En primer lugar, se presenta un marco teórico del ABP en el que se identifican sus características y el proceso de implementación en clase. El objetivo principal es establecer una relación entre el ABP y la motivación del alumnado. El presente trabajo defiende que el ABP es una herramienta eficaz para incrementar la motivación en clase de inglés como lengua extranjera. En segundo lugar, se presenta una unidad didáctica basada en el ABP. Esta tiene por objetivo aumentar la motivación en clase de inglés, fomentar el trabajo en equipo y mejorar el nivel de inglés del alumnado. [EN] This Master’s Dissertation is focused on a recent and innovative teaching methodology, which is Project-based Learning (PBL). It is divided into two main sections. First of all, a theoretical framework about PBL is elaborated to identify its features and how to implement it in the classroom. In addition, the main purpose is to establish a relationship between PBL and learners’ motivation. In this dissertation, PBL is laid down as a powerful tool in enhancing students’ motivation in the English as a foreign language classroom (EFL). Secondly, a lesson plan based on PBL is developed. It aims to foster students’ motivation towards the EFL classroom, promote teamwork and improve their level of English.
