Resumen
Son muchas las patologías que han afectado a los humanos, pero las últimas décadas han estado marcadas claramente por un trastorno: la depresión. Los trastornos depresivos presentan características como apatía, anhedonia o desesperanza, además de generar múltiples consecuencias personales, sociales, médicas y económicas. Como consecuencia, se han realizado numerosos esfuerzos en la investigación de fármacos y métodos para contrarrestar los efectos adversos generados por la depresión y revertir la situación actual, destacando últimamente la ketamina. Gracias a sus propiedades, la ketamina parece presentar efectos antidepresivos necesarios para combatir las adversidades generadas por la depresión. Sin embargo, y a pesar de la evidencia experimental existente, aún existen limitaciones que dificultan extraer conclusiones definitivas sobre la relación entre ketamina y depresión. Por ello, el presente trabajo consiste en una revisión sistemática de estudios experimentales con humanos, cuyo objetivo principal es verificar la eficacia de la ketamina como tratamiento de los trastornos depresivos.
There are many pathologies that have affected humans, but the last decades have been clearly marked by one disorder: depression. Depressive disorders have characteristics such as apathy, anhedonia or hopelessness, in addition to generating multiple personal, social, medical and economic consequences. As a consequence, numerous efforts have been made in the investigation of drugs and methods to counteract the adverse effects generated by depression and to reverse the current situation, lately highlighting ketamine. Thanks to its properties, ketamine seems to have antidepressant effects necessary to combat the adversities caused by depression. However, and despite the existing experimental evidence, there are still limitations that make it difficult to draw definitive conclusions about the relationship between ketamine and depression. Therefore, the present work consists of a systematic review of experimental studies with humans, whose main objective is to verify the efficacy of ketamine as a treatment for depressive disorders.
