Trabajo social. Una carrera feminizada

Abstract

La elección de las carreras universitarias son el resultado de un conjunto de condicionantes sociales, así como de esfuerzos, expectativas e intereses personales. A pesar de que las chicas se encuentran en situaciones parecidas de decisión aún se observan grandes diferencias asociadas al género relacionadas con la elección de los estudios. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar las semejanzas y las diferencias que guían a los jóvenes a estudiar la carrera de Trabajo Social en función del género y si esto influye a su vez en que la profesión signifique cosas distintas y llegue a realizarse de manera diferente. Para ello, analizaremos el concepto de juventud y generación, para después explicar la diferente posición de mujeres y hombres en el sistema educativo y en el mercado laboral tanto de manera global como atendiendo solo al género femenino.

Choosing a College Degree is the result of a series of social determinants, as well as of effort, expectations and personal interests from students. Despite the fact that women are under similar decisive situations, it can be still observed big differences associated to gender regarding the choosing of studies. The objective of this research is to analyse the similarities and differences that lead young people to study the degree of Social Work based on gender. Then, if this decision influences different meanings of the job and the possibility of a different way of practice it. To that end, we will analyse the concept of youth and generation in order to explain the different position of women and men in the educative system and the job market globally and focusing only on the female gender.
