Multiple sclerosis affects 2.5 million people in the world. It is a neurological disease that attacks myelin, which is the protective sheath that restores nerve fibers, causing communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. It occurs in individuals with a genetic predisposition linked to the effect of different environmental factors such as the Epstein-Barr virus or low levels of vitamin D. The disease usually appears at 20-40 years of age, appearing mostly in women. There are countries with a higher incidence, in the case of Spain, its incidence is medium-high. There are four forms of manifestation of the disease and the symptoms will vary according to the type and according to the person. The WHO defines traditional and complementary medicine as: “the sum total of knowledge, skills and practices based on the theories, beliefs and experiences of different cultures, whether explicable or not, used to maintain health and to prevent, detect, improve or treat physical and mental illness. Among these therapies we find acupuncture, a technique of traditional Chinese medicine that consists of inserting needles into different points marked by channels or "meridians".
