Efectividad de la terapia manual como medida de tratamiento para las disfunciones temporomandibulares

Abstract

El objetivo fundamental de esta revisión sistemática es observar la efectividad que tiene el uso de técnicas manuales para el abordaje de disfunciones de origen temporomandibulares. Se hizo una búsqueda en 3 bases de datos: Pubmed, PEDro y Web of Science y se obtuvo en total 1663 estudios clínicos aleatorizados. Al pasar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión nos quedamos finalmente con 12 estudios. Tras observar los resultados, vimos que la terapia manual influye positivamente en el manejo de estas disfunciones y además se obtiene un mejor resultado combinándola con otros tratamientos como son el autocuidado en el hogar y en algunos casos el uso de órtesis de oclusión. Se necesitan más estudios de mayor calidad y más tiempo de seguimiento.

The fundamental aim of this systematic review is observe the effectiveness for using manual techniques for the treatment of temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. A literature research in 3 databases: Pubmed, PEDro and Web of Science was carried out and a total of 1663 articles were obtained. Finally 12 articles were selected because of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. When the results were observed, manual therapy was considered to be a positive way to treat those dysfunctions and if manual therapy is combined with self‐education at home and in other cases with occlusal appliance, the results show a better effect. Further studies with more quality and more time of follow‐up are needed.
