Médicos y matronas a escala mundial mantienen como objeto principal en su trabajo la recuperación general y funcional de la mujer en su etapa de puerperio, es decir, se centran en la vigilancia y seguimiento de las mujeres desde el momento inmediatamente posterior al parto hasta los 30-45 días que comprende el tiempo que necesita el organismo de la madre para recuperar progresivamente las características que poseía antes de iniciarse el embarazo.
