Objective: To verify the effectiveness of a balance training in patients suffering from chronic ankle instability. Method: Following a search in three databases (SCOPUS, PEdro, PUBMED) with the keywords "Chronic ankle instability", "balance training", "strength training", 8 ECA articles were selected for the following study. All met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the scales to evaluate the methodological quality were Pedro and Jadad. Results: Most of the 8 randomized trials found satisfactory results, were grouped into 3 groups according to their study variable, 5 in postural control, 2 in gait biomechanics and 1 in strength. Conclusion: The review shows that balance training and strength in patients with chronic ankle instability improves postural control, gait biomechanics and strength. However, we seriously chose to continue studying and investigating this type of treatment by improving the limitations found for greater evidence.
