[EN]Part-time work, a somehow atypical and relatively recent work system in our legal system, has evolved in a peculiar way regarding its legal regulation, somewhat chaotic or multidirectional inasmuch as it has undergone a great deal of modifications, sometimes even contradictory in themselves, in hindsight. At the same time, this contractual figure has been, and still is, intimately linked to female labour. Besides, it has been al the heart of a huge controversy around the issue of gender discrimination. In the meantime, part-time work has been highly promoted by both Spanish and European labour policies. In this dissertation, an attemp will be made to approach the evolution and causal basis of the part-time job contract as well as its current situation from a gender equality perspective, since this contractual modality has always been particularly associated to women.
