Resumen
El propósito de este trabajo es analizar la obra de El Mercader de Venecia, escrita por William Shakespeare entre 1595 y 1597. Más concretamente, el análisis se centrará en el posible carácter antisemita de la obra. Nuestro principal objetivo será determinar si existe dicho antisemitismo y a continuación señalar determinados episodios y hechos que lo reflejan. Se ofrecerá al lector toda la información necesaria en cuanto a Shakespeare y a la obra en general, seguido de una interpretación de la misma, que estará apoyada en los necesarios comentarios, referencias y pies de página.
The purpose of the present work is to analyze William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice (1595-1597). More specifically, the analysis will be focused on the possible presence of anti-Semitism in the play. Our main aim will be to determine the existence of this anti-Semitism and to mark straightaway certain episodes and facts that reflect it. I will offer readers all the necessary information with regard to Shakespeare and the play itself, followed by an interpretation of it that will be supported by the necessary references, commentaries and textual notes.
