Currently, the diet has changed and has begun to implement certain vegan foods, therefore, products such as dairy products have been eliminated in a large part of the population. These are the main source of Calcium through the diet, one of the most abundant minerals in the body with numerous cellular functions essential for the functioning of the body. Hence, if its consumption is deficient and homeostasis is altered, it produces diseases that can even lead to death. Attending to the field of physiotherapy, we focus on the functions of Calcium in the musculoskeletal system, such as the role as a second messenger in muscle contraction and the reserve of calcium in the skeleton. A bibliographic search has been made in different platforms to know the functions of calcium, the homeostasis process, the role of calcium in the musculoskeletal system, the diseases it causes and an appropriate physiotherapeutic approach. After the search, the conclusion is reached of the lack of investigation of physiotherapy in this type of pathology and the importance of implementing a good prevention and rehabilitation program mainly through physical exercise.
