Mayores y dependencia. Nuevas realidades, nuevos retos

Abstract

En los últimos años, debido al gran incremento de la esperanza de vida y como resultado del progresivo envejecimiento de la ciudadanía, las personas en situación de dependencia, ya sea por causa de la edad, enfermedad o discapacidad, demandan nuevas medidas que respeten y garanticen sus derechos, para llevar una vida lo más independiente posible, respetando sus decisiones, sus intereses y su trayectoria vital. Esta situación provoca una serie de demandas que deben ser atendidas desde todos los ámbitos sociales. Por ello, a través de este trabajo se pretende identificar, analizar y visibilizar los nuevos paradigmas de atención a personas mayores dependientes, dando respuesta a las necesidades identificadas, teniendo en cuenta la potenciación de sus capacidades mantenidas y garantizando la mayor calidad de vida y bienestar de este colectivo, además de atender a su idiosincrasia y a su heterogeneidad, es decir, centrándose por tanto en la persona y proporcionando un envejecimiento activo, digno y positivo.

In recent years, due to the increase of the hope of life and the result of the progressive aging of the citizenship, people in situations of dependency, either because of age, illness or disability, require news measures that they respect and guarantee their rights, to lead a life as independent as possible, respecting their decisions, their interests and their life trajectory. This situation provokes a series of demands that must be approached from all social fields. Therefore, through this work is intended to identify, analyze and make visible the new paradigms of care for dependent elderly through new models of attention responding to identified needs, taking into account the strengthening of its capabilities maintained and guaranteeing the highest quality of life and well-being of this collective, in addition to serving it is idiosyncrasy and its heterogeneity, that is, centered in the person and proving an active, positive and dignified aging.
