This essay presents a study about the comparison between literature and its adaptation into cinema. For it, the reasons that lead directors to film this adaptation will be analysed, and the ways which share both literature and cinema, together with those which differ between both arts, will be exposed. Likewise, a comparison will be made between the novel Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley, and its cinematographic adaptation Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, filmed by Kenneth Branagh. It is not fair to treat adaptations as negative elements without take into consideration that both arts are different, even though they share some aspects.
