Entre la tradición y la modernidad: nacimiento de la República Turca

Abstract

El presente trabajo ofrece una mirada al cambio político-social que se llevó a cabo en la sociedad otomana entre el siglo XIX y XX. Se refiere a la introducción de elementos occidentales y a cómo la modernización afectó a los ciudadanos turcos, ya que el pasado no queda totalmente atrás, ni Turquía deja de ser en muchos aspectos un país oriental. En primer lugar, observaremos la situación de decadencia del Imperio Otomano y el origen de las primeras reformas del siglo XIX. A continuación, analizaremos el desarrollo y occidentalización del país por medio de la figura de Mustafa Kemal Atatürk y su revolución reformista. Y para finalizar, valoraremos todo el proceso reformista kemalista y sus efectos en la actual Turquía.

The present paper offers a look back to the socio-political changes that took place in the Ottoman society between the 19th and 20th centuries. It deals with the introduction of Western elements as well as how the modernization affected the Turkish population, since past is never totally left behind, and Turkey is still, in many ways, an Eastern country. In the first place, we will notice the decay of the Ottoman Empire and the origin of its frist reforms during the 20th century. Next, we will analyze the development and westernization of the country through the figure of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and its reformist revolution. To sum up, we will evaluate the whole Kemalist reform and its effects on modern Turkey.
