La figura del educador social en el entorno del Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo

Abstract

El trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo (TOC) es un trastorno de ansiedad que se caracteriza por dos síntomas íntimamente relacionados y difíciles de distinguir: las obsesiones, pensamientos intrusivos, muy molestos y difíciles de evitar, y las compulsiones, acciones repetidas para intentar reducir la ansiedad que provocan esos pensamientos. En España, alrededor del 2,5% de la población sufre algún tipo de este trastorno; por ello, la información que contiene este documento es de gran importancia para que la sociedad pueda tomar conciencia sobre esta problemática. El principal objetivo de este estudio es dar a conocer el valor que el educador social tiene en este ámbito, cómo su perfil puede ayudar al colectivo a combatir las dificultades con las que se encuentran, tanto los usuarios como sus familiares; para ello muestra las funciones y competencias que puede ejercer en este ámbito.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by two closely related and often difficult-to-distinguish symptoms: obsessions, intrusive, distressing, and difficult-to-avoid thoughts, and compulsions, repeated actions performed to try to reduce the anxiety caused by these thoughts. In Spain, approximately 2.5% of the population suffers from some form of this disorder; therefore, the information contained in this document is of great importance in raising public awareness of this issue. The main objective of this study is to highlight the value of social educators in this field, how their profile can help people with OCD and their families overcome the difficulties they face, and to this end, it outlines the roles and competencies they can exercise in this area.
