The main leader regions of this important sector are Italy and Spain. The first one has maintained a head position in the global market for many years but now Italy is facing a critical moment due to the low level of production. On the other hand, Spain has become a strong leader in the olive oil sector, especially after the significant investments that started after the second half of ‘90s. Nowadays Italy and Spain are still leading and competing in this renewed market. Both adopt different kind of marketing strategies, moreover they changed their market-orientations in order to extend their commerce. Although this historical competition, the two major oil producers are now deeply connected, this relationship is helping the Iberian market to grow faster, and on the other hand it is suppling Italy with raw material.
