[EN]This Master's Dissertation attempts to redefine the concept of literacy to adequate this learning milestone to the current necessities of the educational system. This reconceptualization is worked through the Genre-based Approach, which focuses on the study and use of discursive genres to develop the teaching- learning process. All this analysis is conducted from the perspective of foreign language teaching, where the role of Content and Language Integrated Learning (from now on, CLIL) is examined in relation to literacy and the Genre- based Approach. Finally, the didactic proposal translates the conclusions gathered in the theoretical framework into a practical dimension; in particular, it exemplifies how to carry out a didactic unit based on discursive genres from the area of Social Sciences and where English is the language of instruction.
