Actualmente los sistemas de asistencia circulatoria son una opción terapéutica para aquellos enfermos con insuficiencia cardiaca severa refractaria a tratamiento farmacológico. La pirámide poblacional en España se está invirtiendo por lo que cada vez más la población es más longeva y proporcionalmente aumenta los candidatos a una recepción de cualquier dispositivo de asistencia cardiaca destinada al tratamiento o puente al trasplante(6). La implicación del enfermero perfusionista en los pacientes que portan un sistema de asistencia cardiaca es de vital importancia, se basan en una metodología exquisita, una vigilancia estrecha y unos cuidados holísticos de calidad. En la actualidad, la evolución no ha cambiado, y se han diseñado muchos diseños, entre los que se incluyen balones de contrapulsación, bombas de rodillos, dispositivos no pulsátiles de ventrículo simple o doble con o sin películas de óxido, ECMO, hasta que se alcance el número total de corazones artificiales
