The school is the place where citizens grow, learn healthy habits and develop skills from the psychosocial point of view. This learning process influences not only the first periods of our lives, but our development through the life cycle. The knowledge of topics such the different types of food and nutritional needs (currently in public debate) is the basis of what we apply in our daily life. Moreover, it is very important for the students to learn how to implement this issues in a healthy way of life in order to avoid atherosclerosis, certain types of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, among others. Directly related to what we eat are also topics like genetic manipulation, functional food and our own behavior as consumers. As critical citizens, this would be helpful to choose the correct diet without being influenced by advices with no scientific basis.
