Written communication is a tool that human beings have used for millennia, whether carving stone to imprint symbols for others to interpret or drafting diplomatic letters with pure mental ingenuity. Although written communication is not a universal skill across all cultures, thanks to the emergence of the internet and applications that allow us to be connected globally, for the first time in history, it is possible to engage in real-time dialogue through this medium. This innovation brings with it a series of consequences that alter the traditional use of writing, as well as the characteristics of written discourse. Among these, we highlight the colloquial oral nature that predominates in WhatsApp and which, broadly speaking, leads to the emergence of various nonverbal elements whose purpose is to resemble a conversation we could have face-to-face.
