This research empirically examines the relationship between leadership and emotional intelligence in real (descriptive) and ideal (prescriptive) leaders. Specifically, participants express and evaluate their perceptions of Emotional Intelligence skills and leadership styles, gaining an impression of real (descriptive) and ideal (prescriptive) leaders. The results revealed a correlation between emotional intelligence and leadership, but not with the transformational leadership style, which is perceived as having greater emotional characteristics and leadership. People attach greater Emotional Intelligence and leadership to ideal leaders than to real leaders. Finally, no major differences in Emotional Intelligence and Leadership were perceived in the real and ideal leaders according to gender and work experience.
