The study of World Contemporary History for students in 1o Bachillerato can offer several case studies in which the students can be reflected as part of reality, to identify themselves with it and pursue changes. Current affairs as the Iranian women fight movement are a clear example in which the loss of social rights represent a serious threat for the contemporanean democratic societies. The social active issues approach can help students to empathize with such social causes, thus the preservation and extension of social rights are the key to achieve a democratic competence in terms of coexistence and citizenship in the future.
